Hi gang!
Sorry to those who have been checking for updates here. I am going to try my best to update this page as often as I can, but the way the gigs are going, it has been difficult to find the time - it's just become constant!
It was great to meet up with Bob Geldof last month. We met up at a service station, both on the way to separate gigs. We chatted a short while about The Boomtown Rats on the Marc Shows, and Bob said how sorry he was that Marc wasn't around anymore. He then introduced me to his band, we drank coffee and went our separate ways. Bob did ring me a couple of years back wishing me all the best for an anniversary concert we were playing, which was good of him.
It was also nice to see Bill Legend's twin sons attend a theatre gig we did in Northampton. When I was introduced to them, I was stunned by their extreme likeness in their looks to their dad. It was like staring at Bill when he was in T.Rex circa 1973! We had a long talk about the old days of T.Rex, and they were very interested in talking to Nigel and I about T.Rextasy and Nigel's drumming in the band.
Our shows have been going through the roof lately with gigs so well attended, if not sold out, and the Slade tour did really well, also pulling hundreds of fans at all shows.
Now, here we go again…I have been hearing rumours along the T.Rex grapevine that I have been saying that I am against any other T.Rex tribute bands, which is absolutely not true. Luckily and thankfully, T.Rextasy are now at the stage where competition is out of the question, in which case why on earth should I be against anyone wanting to play Bolan's music? I have only commented in the past that if real Bolan fans wanted Marc to be portrayed in the higher echelons of the music greats, then his music should be respected and played in the way Marc Bolan portrayed himself in a live situation which is (and this is only a personal opinion) - whoever appears as a tribute to T.Rex should learn the craft of Marc's very special lead guitar work, sound, stage craft, performance, and vocal ability. To me, without these things it becomes a watered down version of a performance of something that should be very special.
Let me put in print now that I wish all those who want to play Marc's music live, the very best of luck but please treat it with the respect it deserves. As all those who know me well, know that I hold Marc's music in great esteem and it is most precious to me and that is why I hold such strong views on the subject - it has been, after all, in my heart and soul for 35 years.
I must yet again warn people against so many Bolan counterfeit/fake autographs that are appearing on Ebay. I have never seen so many before. Some of them are so bad that I am amazed they are selling! Please just do a little research and check out an original before placing a bid!
It does take a lot to impress me musically these days, but I must just say that I went to see the very first public show of Antony and The Johnsons the other month, and they were great - totally original and unique and that voice is just awe inspiring. 'I Am A Bird Now' is now one of my favourite CDs.
I wish you all well,
Danielz
